Adidas to become official kit supplier for Manchester United in biggest ever deal
By Jamie White – Head of Communications
Sportswear giant Adidas has announced a ten-year partnership deal with Manchester United, worth a reported £750 million.
The deal comes after Nike decided to end its 13-year relationship as the club’s kit maker, at the end of the 2014/15 season.
Adidas hopes the deal will generate an additional £1.5bn sales throughout the partnership, and will also have the exclusive right to distribute co-branded merchandising products worldwide.
Adidas Chief Executive, Herbert Hainer, said: “We are excited to team up with Manchester United, one of the most successful and most loved football clubs globally. Our new partnership with Manchester United clearly underlines our leadership in football and will help us to further strengthen our position in key markets around the world.
“We expect total sales to reach £1.5bn during the duration of our partnership.”
The unveiling of the deal comes a day after the German firm, an official World Cup sponsor, provided the playing kit for Germany and Argentina in the World Cup final – won by Germany (pictured).
The news also follows the recent announcement that Chevrolet is now an official partner of the club in a deal worth £50m.
It will be the first time Adidas has made the Premier League’s team’s strip for 23 years, since the 1991-92 season.
