You may remember from our previous blog that this time last month, Field Operations Coordinator Poppy Dugan was ready to run the 25th Annual Morrisons Great South Run. The popular event takes participants right through the heart of Douglas Stafford’s hometown of Portsmouth, taking the scenic route past iconic landmarks such as the HMS Victory and The Emirates Spinnaker Tower. We caught up with Poppy to find out how it went…
How did you find the run?
A lot more difficult that I thought! I got to the five-mile point and honestly felt like giving up! I didn’t think that it was going to have such an impact so early on; I thought I would get to the seven-mile point and then be starting to feel it. I honestly didn’t train as much as I could have, I went for a few runs in the evening with my dad but we both could have done a lot more!
Which charity did you run for and why?
I ran for Moving Forward, a charity that helped my Nan when she became ill. I wanted to run for a charity that impacted my family personally. Moving Forward helped her so much – it was a no-brainer that it had to be for them.
So, what was the final result and how much did you raise?
I finished in two hours and twenty-one minutes and I raised around £350.
A brilliant effort! Would you be mad enough to do it again?
I would definitely do it again! The atmosphere was nothing that I had witnessed before – it was amazing. Everyone was cheering me on and made me feel like I could carry on when I really just wanted to give up. Me, my mum and my dad have all signed up for next year.
Well done Poppy, from everyone here at Douglas Stafford!
Poppy’s fantastic effort was all in aid of Moving Forward, who provide a valuable forum for users of artificial limbs, orthotics and wheelchairs. If you would like to donate or find out more about Moving Forward then please click on the link below.
