Vodafone has launched a new service – WorldTraveller – which allows customers on monthly price plans to use their existing UK minutes, texts and data at a selection of global destinations.

The WorldTraveller service will be made available for £5 a day – compared with £2 a day for the European version – in the USA, India, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Ghana, Qatar and South Africa.

Users will also be able to receive calls and texts for free, and will only be charged for the days when they use their device.

The launch of WorldTraveller comes alongside Vodafone’s existing EuroTraveller price plan for users travelling on the continent – which will stay at £2 a day until the end of August – which the company says has attracted 1.5m users.

Roaming costs are being increasingly slashed across Europe as operators look to comply with new EU regulations concerning the charges, which are due to be phased out by December 2015 as part of major reforms to the telecoms market.

Customers wishing to sign up to the new WorldTraveller plan simply need to call 5555 from their Vodafone device to opt in to WorldTraveller for no extra charge.
