New York store to house Topman and Topshop brands
By Hannah Cook
Topshop is to open a flagship store on New York’s Fifth Avenue as it continues its international expansion.
The 40,000 sq ft Manhattan store is set to open in the third quarter of 2014 on the corner of 49th Street and will be Topshop’s second largest store in the world after its giant flagship store on the corner of Oxford Street and Regent Street in London, which is 90,000 sq ft.
The retailer already has Topshop and Topman stores in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Las Vegas, but owner Sir Philip Green has been eyeing a location on Fifth Avenue for many years.
Topshop/Topman will create several hundred jobs in New York through the new store and a new US head office which will house buyers, a visual merchandising team and a marketing department.
A further 15 Topshop and Topman stores are set to open across eight countries over the next six months.
